About Ram Navami(উৎসব পরিচিতি)
Ram Navami 2026 marks the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu and the embodiment of 'Dharma' or righteousness. In West Bengal, while traditionally a quieter observance compared to North India, the festival has evolved into a vibrant celebration with colorful processions, the sound of conch shells, and the distribution of 'Panakam' (spiced jaggery water) to weary travelers.
History: According to the Ramayana, Lord Rama was born at noon on the ninth day (Navami) of the Chaitra month in Ayodhya. For centuries, this day has been a reminder of the 'Maryada Purushottam'—the ideal man who stood for truth and duty. In the Bengali tradition, reading the 'Krittivasi Ramayan' is a common practice on this day, bringing the ancient epic closer to the local language and culture.
Significance: The festival celebrates the victory of light over darkness and the establishment of divine law. It is a day to reflect on one's own duties and the strength of character required to walk the path of truth in challenging times.
