History: In traditional North Indian ethos, Diwali brilliantly marks the triumphant return of Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and his brother Lakshmana to their kingdom in Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and the defeat of the demon king Ravana. The ecstatic citizens of Ayodhya famously lit their entire city with rows of clay oil lamps (Diyas).
