About Dipabali (Diwali)(উৎসব পরিচিতি)

Dipabali, commonly known as Diwali, is undeniably one of India's most universally spectacular and widely celebrated festivals. Representing the supreme triumph of light over dark, of knowledge over crushing ignorance, and of good over evil, the entire country transforms into a shimmering wonderland. In Bengal, this pan-Indian festival perfectly aligns with the fierce Kali Puja, creating an incredibly unique dual-celebration where the roaring worship of the Dark Mother meets the dazzling illumination of millions of earthen lamps.

History: In traditional North Indian ethos, Diwali brilliantly marks the triumphant return of Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and his brother Lakshmana to their kingdom in Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and the defeat of the demon king Ravana. The ecstatic citizens of Ayodhya famously lit their entire city with rows of clay oil lamps (Diyas). Meanwhile, in South India, it predominantly signifies the brutal defeat of the demon Narakasura by Lord Krishna.

Significance: The festival physically and spiritually cleanses the environment. Brightly lit lamps invite wealth (Goddess Lakshmi) into the home. It is a time for dramatic fresh starts, wearing brand new clothes, forgiving past grievances, and an immense exchange of luxurious sweets among relatives.
